El primero de los conciertos “clásicos” del Festival de la Guitarra estuvo en manos del aclamado guitarrista David Russell. Presente en numerosas ediciones del Festival, desde los primeros que se hacían en la Plaza del Potro (como nos recordó en la sesión previa al concierto dentro del ciclo La guitarra cuenta), es un reto ofrecer un repertorio diferente y atractivo para el público, que llenó la sala del Teatro Góngora. El carismático guitarrista siempre tiene unas palabras para la organización del festival, dedicando alguna de sus obras, aprovechando en esta ocasión para agradecer el esfuerzo en la situación en la que nos encontramos. También hubo dedicatoria para los sanitarios por su labor.
El concierto comenzó con la suite La Prise de Gaeta, de J. de Saint-Luc. En sus ocho movimientos nos transporta a la época barroca con elegancia y precisión rítmica en los adornos y trinos, jugando con la tímbrica del instrumento, imitando al clave. Con un cambio en el programa, y dentro del mismo estilo, ofreció sus arreglos de dos corales de J. S. Bach.
Con una sonoridad más abierta, como si de otro instrumento se tratase, escuchamos Air Varie de G. Regondi. En las distintas variaciones se suceden los recursos técnicos con adornos, trinos, floreos, portamentos.. que son sorteados con gran destreza, siempre dentro de la musicalidad del tema de carácter italiano de la obra.
La segunda parte del concierto es íntegra con obras de Agustín Barrios Mangoré. Las tres primeras las interpreta sin solución de continuidad y demostrando la combinación de técnica y expresividad. Vals n.4, Julia florida y Danza paraguaya. Con un cambio en la scordatura une el aire popular paraguayo Caazapá y Un sueño en la floresta, pieza emblemática en el repertorio de Russell, con un trémolo exquisito. El buen trabajo de sonorización nos permitió distinguir los detalles en la interpretación.
Como propina tuvimos una Cantiga de Martín Codax. (Acaba de estrenar su disco Cantigas de Santiago).
GREAT CONCERT BY THE CHARISMATIC GUITARIST DAVID RUSSELL
The first of the Guitar Festival's “classic” concerts was in the hands of acclaimed guitarist David Russell. Present in numerous editions of the Festival, since the first ones that were held in the Plaza del Potro (as he reminded us in the session prior to the concert within the cycle The guitar counts), it is a challenge to offer a different and attractive repertoire for the public, which filled the hall of the Góngora Theater. The charismatic guitarist always has a few words for the organization of the festival, dedicating some of his works, taking this opportunity to thank them for their efforts in the situation we find ourselves in. There was also a dedication to the health workers for their work.
The concert began with the suite La Prise de Gaeta, by J. de Saint-Luc. In its eight movements it transports us to the baroque era with elegance and rhythmic precision in the ornaments and trills, playing with the sound of the instrument, imitating the harpsichord. With a change in the program, and within the same style, he offered his arrangements of two chorales by J. S. Bach.
With a more open sound, as if it were another instrument, we listen to Air Varie by G. Regondi. In the different variations, the technical resources follow one another with ornaments, trills, flourishes, portamentos... which are sorted with great skill, always within the musicality of the Italian theme of the work.
The second part of the concert is entirely dedicated to works by Agustín Barrios Mangoré. He performs the first three without a break, demonstrating the combination of technique and expressiveness: Waltz n.4, Julia florida and Paraguayan dance. With a change in the scordatura, he unites the popular Paraguayan dance Caazapá and A Dream in the Forest, an emblematic piece in Russell's repertoire, with an exquisite tremolo. The good sound work allowed us to distinguish the details in the interpretation.
As an encore we had a Cantiga by Martín Codax. (He has just released his album Cantigas de Santiago).
